Amazon.com. Everyone’s favourite “everything store” has a problem. The platform is ripe with scams.

Don’t get me wrong, I love Amazon and I use it regularly. It almost always has the best price, and the delivery times are incredible.

However, as the platform has grown and become more popular, it’s become plagued with scams and fake reviews. This is a step-by-step guide on how to avoid getting ripped off or scammed on Amazon.

Step 1: Avoid suspicious deals

You’ve just opened the homepage for Amazon, and you are greeted by a plethora of deals.

“How wonderful for Amazon to be showing me all these deals! Hail Jeff Bezos!”, you think to yourself.

But be wary. Last year, a Buzzfeed news investigation revealed, that the “Today’s Deal” page is filled with scams. Buzzfeed found several sellers who falsely inflate the price of their products, and then discount them heavily, leading to the false impression of a good deal.

To dodge this particular scam, avoid products that seem too good to be true like £349 headphones on sale for £29.99.

Step 2: Don’t always trust “Amazon’s Choice”
